Start Laser Hair Removal Now — and Have Silky Smooth Skin By Summer

It’s already March, which means it won’t be long until the summer pool season is here. When you want to look great in your swimsuit, unwanted body hair can be difficult and frustrating to remove, putting a damper on your confidence.

Fortunately, you can eliminate unwanted body hair in just weeks with laser hair removal at Primary & Alternative Medical Center in Silver Spring, Maryland

Learn more from Jean Welsh, MD, about how laser hair removal can remove your unwanted body hair for good.

What is a laser hair removal procedure?

Laser hair removal is a non-surgical procedure that eliminates unwanted body hair more permanently than methods like shaving, waxing, and plucking. The procedure uses laser and light technology to penetrate the skin and remove body hair at the root.

When we place the laser over your skin, the laser damages your unwanted hair at the follicle level. This produces long-term results that cause your body hair to stop growing.

Laser hair removal lasts longer than other hair removal methods and causes less pain than waxing or threading. You also won’t have any stubble like after shaving. Instead, you can enjoy silky smooth skin all summer long.

Where can you get laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is possible in just about any area where you have unwanted body hair. It can work on body hair of any color,  all skin tones, and people of all genders.

Areas laser hair removal can treat include:

You can usually have the treatment on any area of your body except by the eye or areas that are tattooed. Laser hair removal can even eliminate stubborn ingrown hairs.

What happens during the laser hair removal procedure?

Our team evaluates the area where you’d like to get laser hair removal and determines you’re a good candidate. In preparation for the procedure, our team provides pre-care instructions to ensure the best outcome.

For 4-6 weeks before your first treatment, we recommend stopping any hair removal methods, including waxing, plucking, and electrolysis. You’ll also need to avoid the sun, stop taking specific medication, and restrict skin creams.

The day before the procedure, shave or trim the targeted area. This shortens the hair so there’s less to remove, making it easier to eliminate it.

On the day of your first treatment, we apply a topical numbing cream to the area to eliminate any discomfort. You also wear special goggles to protect your eyes.

You sit or lie comfortably while your technician holds the laser. As it works, you might feel a bit of heat or a stinging or pricking sensation.

The length of the treatment varies depending on the size of the treatment area. Once the treatment is finished, you can go about your day using cooling cream or ice packs to relieve any temporary redness or stinging.

Your next treatment happens 4-6 weeks later to target additional hair in the targeted area. Once laser hair removal is complete, the results can last for several months or be permanent.

There’s still plenty of time to get the silky smooth skin you desire this summer. To schedule laser hair removal and feel great in your skin, contact us now to get started.
